Injury prevention

Led by our company director and Doctor of Physical Therapy, Anna Cerveny, PT, DPT, this course teaches preventative techniques for dancers including cross training activities, nutrition, and tips for treatment of injuries of dancers in attendance. This class is appropriate for ages 13+ in dance studios, dance programs, or dance companies. Our injury prevention program can be offered as a one time course, or as a multi-class series. We specifically cater the course to the group we’re working with based on number of participants, ages and dance experience of the group, any injuries that are being dealt with at the time, and any other specific requests from the client.

Each class can be a mix and match of any or all of the following 4 parts:

  1. Performance - CDP Company will present a work that aligns with the client’s need with the intention of stoking inspiration from the group, and motivating movement.

  2. Engagement - CDP Company will foster the groups’ ideas, discuss injury history and questions as appropriate, and hold space for inquiry through a Q&A

  3. Application - Led by a Doctor of Physical Therapy, our health certified Company members will instruct the group in an injury prevention session, including cross training exercise for dancers, dance specific rehabilitation, and other preventative methodology to maintain long dance careers and healthy dancing techniques.

  4. Reflection - CDP Company will encourage thoughtful discussion of the program as a means of self-awareness for the students to assess the importance of both mental and physical self-care, as well as to ensure that our program is meeting our goals of fulfilling the needs of the students.
